
Kody Jones
Associate
Kody is a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, where he joined the firm in 2005. He focuses his practice primarily on patents in biotechnology, plant science, chemistry, combustion, textiles, pharmaceuticals and mechanics. He assists clients ranging from multinational pharmaceutical and chemical companies to start-ups in developing and executing patent portfolio and prosecution strategies. He also has experience in assisting with licensing and other transaction matters related to patent and intellectual property rights.
He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999 with a B.S. in Biology and a Chemistry minor. He earned his masters degree in Microbiology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2002, where he studied plant-microbial interactions and bacterial population dynamics. He was awarded his Juris Doctor from the Franklin Pierce Law Center, cum laude, in 2005. While in law school, Kody worked at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and Research where he drafted and prosecuted patent applications related to protein technologies and research tools.
Kody is active in the Triad Drug Discovery and Development Group and the Triad Biotech Alliance, two groups committed to promoting scientific discussion and developing a strong life science community in the Triad. He also serves on the North Carolina Coastal Conservation Association state board, where he works with the legislative issues committee.
He is a member of the State Bar of North Carolina and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
